Here's more of that new-new...
Hey babes -- It's me, Janine, back again to show off a new segment #SHOPVISITSATURDAYS !!!!!! Want to know our favorite shops around the city? Want to find what's really good? Right here is where you can do all that!
To kick things off, I was lucky enough to visit one of my favorite shops La Petite Mort! The shop sits comfortably at 37 Orchard St. down in LES and has the coolest vibe all around. LPM is the perfect spot you go to when you're looking for a totally unique piece for a really sweet price. The two & totally rad owners, Kara and OJ wanted to create something more than your typical retail store experience -- they have turned LPM to a total lifestyle shop, and I'm all about it! If you're anything like me, then you'll find many of your Instagram crushes' IRL pieces there and will love every second of it. What an incredible feeling: from your phone screen to your own hands. Hold that denim jacket with the broken heart patches you've loved forever, try on that hat that you know will give you a killer snap chat pic, pick up the leather harness you didn't think you would actually ever buy but you always secretly wanted because girl, you a freak, and WE LOVE IT. Oh, and take a good selfie in the fitting room because the mirror has a gold necklace with my favorite word on it -- Disco.
Every so often, LPM will put on a different event that ties in an artist's work and the clothing as well. Currently, they are showing the work of Kathryn Chadason's "I'm With The DJ" pieces until April 9th. The artwork itself, tying back into the retail aspect of La Petite Mort, is a handful of different shirts with funny embroidered "DJ names" that are meant to poke at the actual DJ names we all hear out there. Maybe you prefer the yellow ruffled button down that simply says "I'm with the DJ", or maybe your #steeze is the lime green tee that reads "DJ Deep Thots". LPM went above and beyond and turned the shop into a Miami-like club for the opening too. Talk about fun! As OJ said about the shop (in comparison to art), "what separates a really good artist from any other artist is their story and the story behind the piece. Everything we do here has a story behind it. You're not just buying fabric or a zine, you're buying part of a culture that not that many people have access to." If you're a culture junkie like Us Bettys, then I know you'll love this spot just as much. Not only are they providing their customer with a special piece of NY culture, but they are a really cool springboard for those who are just coming onto the artistic scene as well. We really appreciate that here at The Bettys.
