For the #BETTYICON Zine I made mini shrines of all our selected Icon's. I wanted to make shrines solely of either my own resources or the 99 cent store. I grew up in a home where shrines are all about the thought you put into them, not in terms of value but of dedication. Can't afford fresh flowers? 99 cent store plastic flowers will do. Candles? always, ALWAYS, every single day. There are various ways to worship something or someone, but one thing that it never disperses from is the concept of luxuries. Gold, diamonds and money have been gifts given to saints and Gods of all religions from around the world since the beginning of civilization. All shrines represent a different icon in terms of aesthetic and style without losing the base values of what a shrine can be. They are considered "mini" because they only take an area of 8x10 inches. The possibilities for an actual shrine of these women are just absolutely endless. These women are all completely different from each other and have broken multiple barriers. It was a lot of fun to interpret their strength as women in this project and we can't wait for you to see it! Besides the zine, which will be an edition of 25 and only 25 ever, I will be making 3 prints of each mini shrine. They will be numbered and signed. You can grab a print at our betty social, this Saturday, at alt space brooklyn. Facebook Invite HERE.
